Ayurvedic Medicine: The New Name in Alternative Health Options

By Remedy Natural

Traditional medicine is enjoying a comeback thee days, as well as gaining new followers. Of the many popular alternative health options around, a promising field is Ayurvedic Medicine.

Many have come to realize the wisdom of different cultures’ tried and tested ways of healing. More so, modern medicine’s reliance on prescription drugs have become distasteful for most, and many are now seeking more natural options to improve their health. There is also a quest for a more wholistic approach to health— something that Ayurvedic Medicine can boast of.

Ayurvedic Medicine, which originated from India, is a mix of unique medicinal preparations and surgical interventions to heal diseases. The term comes from the Sanksrit word Ayurveda which means the ’science of life.’ While new to most westerners, Ayurvedic Medicine has been around for centuries and is quite extensively practiced even outside of its home country.

Two of the core principles for health, according to Ayurvedic Medicine, are a healthy metabolism and the proper removal of waste. Thus practitioners follow both body enrichment and body detoxification processes. Aside from these purely biological functions, Ayurvedic Medicine also believes in mental well-being which can be attained through yoga and meditation.

Practitioners of this Ayurvedic Medicine have developed guidelines on almost every life function including the preparation of food, eating habits, hygiene, health routines and exercises. Their list of recommendations is extensive and covers different areas of a person’s life.

One of the most attractive aspect of Ayurvedic Medicine is it’s reliance on nature for medicine and healing supplements. Among popular cures in Ayurvedic Medicine are the terminalia arjuna for heart diseases, turmeric to enhance memory, Spanish sage for Alzheimer’s disease and cinnamon to assist in digestion. Medicinal oils are also used to increase a person’s vitality. Vegetable-based supplements are their way of giving the body most of the raw materials it needs to function effectively.

Unlike products from other traditional medicinal options, drugs commonly used in Ayurvedic Medicine are well-respected in the scientific community. In fact, commercial pharmaceutical companies have formulated marketable versions of Ayurvedic Medicine. This led India to fight for the patent of their traditional remedies.
